The installation of a cast floor is slightly different from regular flooring. For example, carpet, PVC and laminate can be installed within one day and often consist of a single layer (excluding insulation). But how long does the installation of a cast floor take? In the blog we talk in detail about the installation process of an EPI Superbase cast floor.
The application of a cast floor usually takes 3 to 5 days, depending on the type of cast floor, and consists of several layers. Each day, after curing, a new layer is applied. Read more about which substrate is suitable for a cast floor here.
Leading up to installation days, it is important to make good preparations. Typically, the ambient temperature of the substrate and material should be between about 18° – 25°C and dew point difference of at least 3°C. If you have an underfloor heating system, it is important to adhere to the heating protocol.
On the first day, the substrate is made flat, clean and dry. Then the first coat is applied. This is the Primer/Scraper coat. This layer seals the substrate and fills in small irregularities. The layer also ensures good adhesion and strength. This is essential for long life.
During the second day, the chosen screed is applied. This can be a solid (1 color) or a blend (mix of 2 colors). With the blend color, we recommend watching the first square meters and indicating whether you like the blend. A scatter in a certain size and color can also be chosen.
On the third day and fourth day, the floor is coated with a topcoat. This coat protects the floor from damage and dirt. The extra coat of lacquer guarantees years of durability.
EPI recommends waiting as long as possible before loading the new cast floor. 24 hours after applying the last coat, the floor is ready for light foot loading. After 72 hours, the screed is ready for medium load and after 7 days for normal use.
