What is the difference between a solid and blend color?

Every EPI flooring system has its own color collection. Colors that speak, distinctive and suitable for such an area of application. But what options are there and how is the color choice determined? In this blog, we provide some examples of color choices and take you through the color variations.

Atmosphere

The color of a cast floor largely determines the atmosphere of a room. It is like the foundation of a room. You can make a statement with colors. You can make rooms seem larger with a light floor and smaller with a dark floor.

Schools use high-contrast and bright colors to match a youthful atmosphere. Sports floors in gymnasiums often use primary colors to distinguish the lines of the sports floor, for example.

Designer floors in the hospitality industry are often dark in color to emphasize the chic and secure character, while industrial and functional floors are lighter due to practicality.

Themes

For the Superbase cast floor, a special color collection was developed in cooperation with 4 (interior) architectural firms and design studios. By combining expertise and creativity in the field of trends within colors, interior design and lifestyle, 16 new, expressive colors have been created. These colors are divided into three different themes: Neutrals, Industrial Cool and Earth Tones. The other EPI flooring systems do not have themes, but all have their own color patterns.

All colors

EPI has a large pallet of colors. The EPI colors are divided into solid (based on one color) and blend colors (mix of two colors). These colors are composed based on market demand and color use for practical use. In addition to our own colors, Ral colors and NCS colors can also be mixed for standard screed solutions.

The Corestone Nature concrete look screed also has a large pallet of colors, but it is a lot more limited due to the use of mineral quartz. The raw material proprietary color makes mixing a color a lot more complex.

Mixing and application

Applying a cast floor in a solid color is a lot easier than a blend color. All cast floors are prepared on site. Components – consisting of resins, hardeners and color paste – are mixed so they can be applied immediately. Blend color cast floors consist of two different color pastes that make up the blend color. The longer the color pastes are mixed the more a solid color is formed by the mixing process. The same is true for applying the screed. The more the floor is stroked with a spatula the busier the pattern will be and the more the blend color will disappear.

In short, EPI has suitable seamless flooring systems for every sector with dozens of matching colors. The color page provides an overview of all colors for each flooring system.
